“The revolution of the renewable energies will be greater than the electricity, the trains, the cars and, probably, greater than that of information ", said Nicholas Stern, climatic change guru. This revolution, the renewable energies, will affect all sectors and will create a wave of innovation. In this sense, Stern explains that the economy low in carbon will be quieter, cleaner, greener, surer, with more biodiversity and less dependent on traditional sources of energy. It will be more faced to the citizens, since they are essential to recycle, to commit themselves for public transport or to save energy. The renewable energies are a sector that has to keep on growing and may go so far as to mean a jump in the way we relate to the environment.
This is the time. We cannot miss the train of clean energies. The global warming, the droughts, the torrential rains … all these phenomena will increasingly grow. And all this has an effect on people, especially in the most vulnerable ones.
According to Stern, the worldwide economy will drop 20 % if the global warming is not stopped, the natural resources would diminish in more than 10 trillions of Euros and this would generate an economic collapse similar to the crack of 1929. However, the cost of the necessary measures to reduce the environmental catastrophe would not overcome 1 % of the worldwide GNP. This moment of crisis gives people the opportunity to change the future and to make it greener. The revolution of the renewable energies has to be an engine of growth, a chance to create a sustainable economy and have respect to the planet.
Furthermore, it does not serve the idea of the one who contaminates pay, which was so fashionable in the 90s. “The one that contaminates pay “does it mean that if you have money to pay you can contaminate everything you want? It does not have any sense. It would be similar if we wanted to apply this thought to the Human rights. Let's imagine if the case was: “anyone who violates the human rights pays ", so, if I have money can I skip them? Then the same should be fulfilled to the Nature, which makes us life possible.
It is annoying to listen that we are going to mortgage the future of the following generations only because it is to invest and to "spend" money to be a sustainable society. The saving and energetic efficiency, the education in “the green thing” and respect for the environment. These are measures that will make us "win" in the future.
The mankind will have to face that they must keep the Earth better. It is necessary to think in long term and take responsibilities for our actions in the future; to invest in cleaner new technologies, to bet for renewable energies and to change life styles. The quality of life has nothing to do with the increase in consumption, having more cars, more houses, eat more … but of taking care of nature, trees, forests, vegetation, seas. The aim to achieve must be to form a civil organized and concerned society, which is mobilized and demands that the agreements should be fulfilled and that should ask their politicians for responsibility for the construction of a sustainable world.
